I had previously looked into switching the fan directionВ on the radiator on top as I always thought pulling air in there was weird (heat obviously rises, so why fight against that), but then I saw people's reasoning for it on various forums. Not sure about impact of ambient room temps, but definitely tinker and try reversing the top fans and see what you get. Both cards are OC'd and at 1.212v and I've never hit 80c. I decided to add 2 side intake case fans and switched my top fans to exhaust. With that setup even while under-volting my cards and no OCВ I easily got to 80 degrees. I also ran my top case fans (2 x120mm for cpu cooler radiator) as intake per the manufacturer's suggestion.В I'm also running 2 780 classifieds. Your case is pretty good in terms of air circulation, don't know which Phantom case you have but I thought they all are good? If a custom profile doesn't work some fansВ should workВ wonders. I have never even bothered overclocking the cards because the things already run too hot at the factory overclocked try a more aggressive fan profile as others have said.

FYI, I have the ACX cooler on the Classified cards. (probably because all it is doing isВ blowing more hot air from inside the case) (although really, even if the air inside the case is 120 degrees F, that is still way cooler than 80 degrees C, so you would think it would do more). As far as the fan profile, I already have an aggressive fan profile and it really makes little difference. That said, my CPU never gets as much of a workout as my graphics card, so I think making that change is one of the things thatВ needs to happen. Your card appears to be operating normally even at 80C. Although I should mention that the cards can take running up to 100C before the card starts the throttle, so you are still 20C away from where the card is getting too hot as it is. Which in the long run is better for the card.

You will not break your card using a manual fan profile, it will only make your card cooler and help it last longer.

As long as afterburner is set to load when windows loads, you will always have your new fan profile and shouldn't have to worry about having to set it again.

Select 'Enable user defined software automatic fan control' Use the points on the graph to set your fans to ramp up at a faster rate and then click okay. Just open afterburner, then go to settings, and fan. I would definitely use a more aggressive fan profile for your card before spending money on more fans. It is just changing how your fan ramps up to cool the card.

This has nothing to do with overclocking. If the card is going to down-clock at max use, I might have well just bought a 770 that runs cooler and save the money. In my opinion, the card should have been designed to never reach a temperature that requires the card to down-clock (unless something was drastically wrong) because then you aren't getting your money's worth. I don't agree with the people that are saying that it is okay for the card to be down-clocking at 80 degrees. if the room temp was 70 degrees, would I see the 10 degrees translate into 10 degrees cooler video cards? Supposedly it is supposed to be inwardВ on the topВ because it is a radiator connected to the CPU and you want the coolest air going through that to keep the CPU cool (at least that is what people on several forums say). I have a new computer from Digital Storm, and it was setup to have air pulled from the side inward, back outward, and top INWARD. My room runs hot due to the amount of computer equipment I have in there. My GTX 780's are running at 85 degreesВ (top one)В and 78 degrees (bottom one) with all options maxed out. I found this thread and though it was rather interesting. If you have a decent case that has spots for case fans get one on the side (sucking air in) back panel (pushing air out) top of case (pushing air out) and front of case (pushing air in) your temps will lower by 10-15 degrees. OptionalFTW case fans would fix this problem.
